FISH SPECIES

FISH SPECIES

SMALLMOUTH BASS (SMALLIE)
Smallmouth inhabit a large amount of Virginia's warm water fisheries and are great to target on the fly. Smallmouth are pound for pound one of the strongest fish in Virginia. They fight like fish twice their size and are often acrobatic fighters. These fish will eat big streamers, popping bugs and everything in-between.

MUSKELLUNGE (MUSKY OR MUSKIE)
Musky are referred to the fish of ten thousand casts. Many times this holds true. Musky thrive in many of Virginia's rivers. They are at the top of the food chain in the river and they know it. It is not uncommon to have a musky eat a fly right at the boat. If you are willing to put in the time, musky can be the most rewarding fish of a lifetime.

BROOK TROUT (BROOKIE)
Brook trout are native to Virginia and Appalachia and are actually not a trout at all. They are a char and boast bright stunning colors. Bookies are perfect to target on the fly. They will readily take a dry fly and can be found in higher elevation cold water streams across Virginia.

CARP
Carp inhabit most of Virginia's warm water fisheries. They are often overlooked as a sport fish but they are excellent fish to chase with a fly rod. A small crawfish imitation is our go-to for carp flies. Carp can be finicky and spook easily, and often test an angler. However, a well-presented fly will often bring an eat. Carp can grow up to 30+ lbs. Once you hook into one of these massive prehistoric fish… hold on tight.
